Tankless water heaters are one of the best options available today for homes that want to upgrade to new, energy-saving technology. Because tankless water heaters only use energy when there’s a demand for hot water (which is why they’re also known as “on-demand” water heaters), they use a fraction of the energy of standard tank water heaters. Another great benefit is that they won’t run out of hot water—they’ll always heat up more! They also take up 80% less space than tank water heaters and can last for years longer.
But tankless water heaters still need repairs at times
A tankless water heater may be wonderful, but it isn’t immortal. Below are some troubleshooting tips for when you have tankless water heater hassles… although you’ll need to call our repair specialists if these tips don’t work. Never attempt to undertake any actual repair work on your own!
- You aren’t getting any hot water: The first thing to do in this situation is to make sure there isn’t a tripped circuit breaker—and even gas-powered tankless water heaters need to use some electric power to run. Then check the shut-off valve for the gas, which might be closed. Look at the error code on the unit’s display panel, which you can use when you call for repairs.
- You’re getting lukewarm water: If the water isn’t hot enough, the issue may be multiple taps on at once; this is one of the downsides of going tankless. In some cases you may benefit from installing a second tankless water heater. Another common problem is sediment inside the heat exchanger that’s blocking it from properly heating the water. The system will need professional attention in this case.
- The water is too hot: This may be a problem with the temperature setting. Check on it and lower it to see if this helps. The temperature sensor may be busted, and this will require technicians to repair it.
