The 3 Types of Water Damage

Water damage is one of the most difficult types of damage to fix when it occurs in a home. The problem is that the water goes everywhere. It flows down into cracks, it seeps deep into building material, and it can hide from the most strenuous clean-up efforts.

This is the reason that water damage must have professional water damage remediation services. If your home has recently suffered a plumbing accident that has cause flooding, contact our water damage remediation specialists. We do an extensive job and will also work with your insurance company to make everything run smoother.

Water Damage Is Classified as 3 Types

We use 3 broad categories for water damage and how it needs to be treated.

  • Clean: This means the water that caused the flooding is itself clean; i.e. it came from a potable freshwater source or from rain. There are usually few microbes in this water, and that makes it the easiest type to clean up. But just because it’s easy doesn’t mean you can ignore it! Clean water will still cause extensive damage and allow mold and mildew to develop.
  • Gray: Gray water is water that goes down sink and bathtub drains, or comes from washing machines. This is water that has some slight contamination, but not to the extent of the next category. Clean water can turn gray if it is allowed to stagnate. The remediation effort is more extensive for gray water because it can have various contamination levels.
  • Black: This is water that can contain highly hazardous levels of bacteria and chemicals. It usually comes from a sewage source, and can create horrible odors as well. The remediation process for black water must be done thoroughly and carefully. It is essential it be left to experienced professionals because it presents major health hazards.
