Ways You Can Avoid Clogged Drains in the Future

drain-with-chain-plugWhat is the #1 most common plumbing problem? It shouldn’t be any surprise to hear that it’s the drain clog. Everyone has dealt with a clogged up or slow drain at some point or another. Our professional plumbers handle unclogging drains in homes and commercial businesses all the time.

We know you’d like to avoid drain clogs if at all possible. Of course, we’d like to have your business whenever you need drain unclogging, but we also want you to have as few plumbing troubles as possible. To help out, here’s a few ways to keep clogged-up drains to a minimum.

Use drain covers and drain screens

Soap scum, hair, and objects accidentally knocked down into drains are among the most frequent sources of drain clogs. You can stop most of these from going down the drains by putting in drain covers and drain screens. Drain covers are sold at hardware and home improvement stores, and they’re easy to place over the drain to strain out unwanted particles. Drain screens need a bit more installation, and you may wish to work with a plumber to put them in. You need to remove drain screens to clean them off occasionally so they won’t end up stopping up the drain themselves.

Keep FOG out of the kitchen drains

FOG is an acronym for “fats, oils, and grease,” and these products of cooking are the enemy of kitchen drains. Although they are liquid when hot, as they cool down from the air of the drain vents, they change into solids that are hard to remove. We recommend you pour FOG from cooking into a separate receptacle and put it in the trash rather than in the drains.

Run hot water down the drain after each use

This is a tool to help deal with FOG. Hot water breaks apart FOG and allows it to flow easier down the drains. You don’t have to run much water down the drain, maybe enough during the time it takes to wash your hands after food preparation.

Schedule regular professional drain cleaning

Drain cleaning isn’t only a job to eliminate current clogs. It is also a preventive tool to stop future clogs. Professional plumbers use powerful hydro-jetting equipment to scour out the drainpipe walls to get rid of all the build-up from FOG, hair, soap scum, limescale, and more. The process leaves the pipe walls so smooth that it’s hard for build-up to start again—and you can enjoy a long stretch of clog-free plumbing.

You can’t stop all clogged drain clogs, of course. If you can’t fix you current clog using a sink plunger, you’ll need a professional plumber in Anaheim, CA to help you out. We provide quality drain cleaning services throughout Southern California. We can fix everything from standard drain clogs to complete sewer line blockage, and we use the finest in advanced equipment. If we can take care of major commercial drain cleaning jobs, you can trust us with any of your home’s drain cleaning needs.
