Kitchen Sink Problems That May Require a Plumber

kitchen-sink-faucet“Everything but the kitchen sink.”

It’s an old adage, one you’re probably tired of hearing. But for professionals like us, the kitchen sink is included in nearly everything! It’s a vital part of a home’s plumbing and one that undergoes a great deal of stress on a daily basis. We often receive calls to help out kitchen sink troubles. Although you can solve a few simple problems on your own, such as tightening a leaking faucet or clearing out a simple clog using a sink plunger, there are many kitchen sink troubles that will require the assistance of a professional plumber with experience in all types of kitchen plumbing work.

Obstinate clogs

The drain has clogged up and you’ve got standing water in the sink. You’ve taken out the plunger and used serious elbow grease, but nothing doing. You used a hand cranked drain snake, still nothing. Don’t reach for a bottle of “drain cleaner” next! These so-called cleaners are caustic and can damage the drains. Instead, call for a plumber to do professional drain cleaning. Using powerful tools such as motorized drain snakes and hydro-jetters, the plumber will not only remove the blockage but also help keep it from coming back.

Busted garbage disposal

If you have a modern kitchen, you almost certainly have a garbage disposal in the sink. Should the disposal break and stop working (and you’ve already tried resetting it using the switch on the bottom), don’t try to tinker with it more. A professional plumber can fix it or have it replaced if it is too far gone.

Odors from the sink drains

Are unpleasant smells wafting up from the sink drain? There are a few possible causes for this. You might have a large amount of organic build-up on the drainpipe walls, in which case drain cleaning will take care of it. The sewer vents on the roof could be blocked, which is forcing sewer gas up through the water in the p-trap (you’ll hear a gurgling sound along with this). Or there might be trouble down in the sewer line itself. Get help right away.

Leaking around the edge of the sink

The sink is supposed to be sealed down tight to the counter. If water starts to leak around the edges, it can create mold and mildew growth underneath it. Call for a plumber to help get the sink properly sealed.

Your wedding ring goes down the sink drain

This isn’t a problem with the sink, but it certainly is a big problem related to the sink! Don’t worry, this is a job we’ve taken care of before. Don’t pour any more water down the drain, just call us right away and we’ll have that important piece of your life restored to you in no time.
