Do You Have a Leak in Your Home?

leak-in-pipeWhether you are a new homeowner or a veteran, one of the worst things you might encounter is a leak in your home. Big or small, leaks aren’t a good thing. If you have a leak and it isn’t caught, it can lead to water damage and other big problems. It is easy to see that catching and addressing any leaks in your home as early as possible is definitely important.

That is easier said than done in most cases though. The thing with leaks is unless they are in the drain under your sink or coming from a faucet head, they are usually out of sight, at least until they cause damage and make you abundantly aware of their presence. Thankfully, there are some warning signs to watch for that will let you know that you may want to reach out for leak detection in the near future.

How to Tell You Might Have a Leak in Your House?

There are a few different indicators that you can keep watch for to determine whether or not you have a leak somewhere in your home. These will include:

  • The sound of running water with no cause: Are you hearing water flowing through your pipes even though there are no appliances using any water? If so, it is likely due to a leak somewhere in your home. A leaking pipe is going to create a false demand for water which is what is causing this noise.
  • Your water meter is running for no reason: Maybe you realized that you are hearing running water that doesn’t have any final destination so you go out to check your water meter to make sure you aren’t hearing things. If you notice that your water meter is running without a reason, this is also a very common sign you have a leak.
  • Appliances have lower water pressure than usual: When you go to use your kitchen sink or take shower and notice that your waterflow is weaker than usual, you may have a leak on your hands.
  • Higher water bills: If you have been using the usual amount of water in your home but your bills reflect a house that has recently added a waterfall to the backyard, you shouldn’t ignore it. This is another big warning sign that you have a leak to deal with.
