Dealing With a Clogged Bathroom Drain

drain-with-chain-plugStepping into your shower and finding that it to be partially filled with water already, even though the drain is un-plugged and it hasn’t been used since last night is a less than ideal situation, to say the least. The first reaction is going to be surprise and confusion, shortly followed by, most likely, a little bit of disgust because that pooling water has all the stuff you wanted to wash away!

After you step back out, change your plans for the day and rinse your feet off elsewhere, what is your next step? If it is to reach for a chemical drain cleaner, we urge you to reconsider. See, a clogged drain isn’t something that store-bought drain cleaner is going to fix in the long run, even if the packaging says it will. We can offer a long-term solution to your clogged bathroom drain.

Solving Your Bathroom Drain Clogs

A drain clog in your bathtub is going to throw a lot of things out of whack for a while until you get the issue resolved. While drain cleaners may seem to offer a quick solution, these liquids won’t actually help you in the future. Instead, we have a few recommendations for more effective ways to clean out your drain and avoid clogs in the future.

Option 1: A Plunger

One of the other types of easy-to-access solutions for a drain clog will be a plunger. It may seem a little strange but plungers can help break up or remove minor clogs, giving you the use of your bathtub again.

Option 2: A Drain Snake or Auger

Drain snakes or drain augers are tools that you insert into your bathroom drain. The flexible metal cable has a small drill at the end of it which can be drilled into the clog to either remove it or break it up so it can be washed away.

Option 3: Hydro-jetting

Hydro jets are another tool that can be used to clear drain clogs with a high-powered water jet. This is an effective method to get rid of the clog in the drain along with any other build-up in the drain that could form a clog later on. This solves the problem at hand and prevents future issues too!

Option 4: Pipe Replacements

Sometimes your pipes have enough build-up that has been left unaddressed for too long and become a permanent, unremovable part of your drain pipe. If this is the case, you will need to remove the pipe that is no longer useable and replace it with a new length of pipe.

Your choice of solution is probably going to vary based on the severity of the clog. One of the best ways to get rid of a clog though, and make sure that you don’t have any additional issues in the near future, is by enlisting the help of a professional plumber in Montclair, CA like the ones on our team.
